Match report Switzerland - Estonia, Preliminary Round
Switzerland wins first place in group A
With a decisive 14:3 victory against Estonia, Switzerland secured first place in group A. They will go on to play Norway tomorrow at 16:30 in the quarterfinals.
Even though Estonia took the lead thanks to a power play goal by Markus (2.), the Swiss team managed to get up to a 4:1 lead after the first period. The team coached by Nykky controlled the game over 60 minutes and gradually managed to increase its score. After two periods, the Swiss held a 9:2 lead. They managed to score 3 goals while playing 5 on 4. In the last second of the game, Switzerland scored for the final result of 14:3.
Because of the decisive loss, Estonia was not able to qualify for the quarterfinals. The Slovakian team will go on to play Sweden in the second quarterfinal held in Bern. Consequently, Estonia will finish worse than two years ago, when they finished in 7th place. The qualification for the quarterfinals is a surprise for Slovakia. So far, their best result at a WFC had been the 17th place in 2010.
